Privacy Policy
db link · Effective date: July 18, 2026
db link is an Android app that helps photographers connect to OM SYSTEM/Olympus cameras, import photos, and edit them. This policy explains the information the app handles and your choices.
1. Information we handle
| Information | Purpose | Where it is handled |
|---|---|---|
| Photos, videos, RAW files, and EXIF metadata | Importing, displaying, editing, exporting, and managing camera files you choose | Your device and connected camera |
| Camera connection information, including camera name, local network address, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth identifiers, and capabilities | Camera discovery, connection, reconnection, and remote control | Your device and connected camera |
| Location information | Photo geotagging and, if you use the bird-detection nearby-information feature, local context | Your device; the eBird API when that feature is used |
| Microphone input | On-device bird-sound analysis only when you start bird detection | Your device |
| Settings, edits, and saved camera profiles | Remembering preferences and providing features on later launches | Your device |
2. How information is used and shared
db link does not serve advertising, upload your photos, videos, or audio to our servers, or sell them for behavioural analytics. Photo editing and AI noise reduction are processed on your device.
When you connect a camera, the app communicates with it over its local Wi-Fi or USB connection. This does not send your photos to an internet service.
If you use the eBird nearby hotspots or observations feature and the app is configured with an eBird API key, the feature may send approximate location coordinates to the eBird API to request nearby observation information. That processing is also subject to eBird's policies. No such request is made when you do not use the eBird feature or do not grant location permission.
3. Permissions
The app requests permissions only when needed for a feature. Photo and video permissions are used to select or save device media; camera permission is used to scan QR codes; Bluetooth and nearby Wi-Fi permissions are used to discover and connect cameras. Location permission is used for geotagging and optional nearby-information features; microphone permission is used for bird detection that you start; notification permission is used to report transfer or long-running processing status.
You can deny or revoke permissions at any time in Android settings. Features that rely on a permission may then be unavailable or limited.
4. Retention and deletion
App data, settings, and caches are primarily stored on your device. You can remove saved camera information and settings through the app's deletion controls or by clearing app data in Android. Photos you import or export remain in the device location you chose and can be deleted with Android's gallery or file manager.
eBird responses may be kept in your device's temporary cache for performance and offline use; they are removed when app data is cleared.
5. Security
Local camera communications use the connection methods and protocols provided by the camera manufacturer. We recommend not using camera connection features on public or untrusted networks. No transmission or storage method can guarantee complete security.
6. Children's privacy
db link is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when features or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when we do.
8. Contact
For privacy questions or deletion requests, use the GitHub contact page. Do not post sensitive personal information or photo files in a public issue.
